Rider turnout increased considerably for the second day of racing at the 
Broome-Tioga Rock and Race Weekend and riders in the A, B and Vet A & B classes 
were delighted when they learned they’d be racing the National track layout. 
Multiple bands performed on Friday and Saturday nights and the event was 
promoted as the Rock & Race Weekend. 

 

When the gate dropped for the opening Collegeboy moto, Jimmy Ide, Jay 
Niedzialkowski, Thomas Dennis and Mark Rice led the pack out of the first turn. 
Niedzialkowski passed Ide for the lead in the last corner of lap one. Dennis and 
Rice remained third and fourth and Brian Falzo now occupied fifth. 
Niedzialkowski had a four second advantage over Ide at the start of lap four. 
Joey Keefe and Falzo passed Dennis and Rice to move to third and fourth. Rice 
was relegated to fifth and Dennis sixth. Lapped traffic became a factor on the last lap 
and Ide closed the gap on Niedzialkowski in the final corner and the two drag raced to the finish.
Niedzialkowski just edged out Ide for the win. Keefe, Falzo and Rice completed the top five.

 

Dennis, Ide, Ryan Vanhalle, James Triano and Falzo led the pack at the start of 
the final Collegeboy moto. Ide passed Dennis for the lead on the ski jump after 
three quarters of a lap. Falzo, Niedzialkowski and Triano rounded out the top 
five. Niedzialkowski slipped past Falzo for third in the same place Ide got 
Dennis on the previous lap. Niedzialkowski quickly closed on Dennis and took 
second in the rhythm section on lap three. Near the end of lap three, 
Niedzialkowski slipped underneath Ide in the corner before the downhill triple 
to take the lead with a lap to go. Niedzialkowski got the win with a two second 
advantage. Ide, Dennis, Ben Cometa and Triano rounded out the top five. 

 

Niedzialkowski (1-1) topped the podium, Ide (2-2) took runner-up and Dennis 
(7-3) completed the podium.

Damien Plotts, John Young, Bob Lapusnak, Paul Bruno and Darryl Smith led the 
start of the first over 30 A moto. Plotts quickly pulled away and came off the 
National hill all alone out front. Young and Smith came off the hill battling 
for second. Smith slipped by Young on the inside at the bottom, stealing second. 
Scott Phelps came off the hill fourth and Lapusnak fifth. Plotts started lap two 
with a nine second lead. Near the end of the lap, Smith and Young didn’t jump 
the off-camber double and Phelps did and passed both riders in the following 
corner to take second. Plotts took the checkered flag nine seconds ahead of 
Phelps. Smith, Young and Lapusnak completed the top five.

 
Lapusnak, Smith, Young, Bruno and Phelps led the pack out of the first turn in 
the final over 30 A moto. Plotts was missing from the start gate due to a 
mechanical problem from the last over 25 A moto. Smith, Lapusnak and Young came 
off the hill nose to tail in the battle for the lead. Phelps and Chadd Groome 
were fourth and fifth. Smith took the lead on the hill on the next lap. Young was displaced to 
second. Phelps came off the hill third and Lapusnak fourth. Groome was alone in 
fifth. Smith got the win with a three second lead. Young, Phelps, Lapusnak and 
Groome rounded out the top five.

Smith’s 3-1 took the overall. Phelps 2-3 rides earned second and Young finished 
third with a 4-2.
