Broome-Tioga
Day 2:
2009 AMA/Air Nautiques Amateur National Motocross Championships
at Loretta Lynn's Area
Qualifier
Michael McDade (334) passes Mitchell Dougherty (597) for the
lead in route to the 1st moto win in the 450 A/Pro
Sport class at the Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier at Broome-Tioga
on April 5th.

Garrett Toth (334) passes Mitchell Dougherty (597) to secure
second late in the 1st 450 A Pro/Sport moto at the
Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier at the Broome-Tioga Sports Center on
April 5th in Binghamton, New York.
Michael McDade continued his winning ways on the second
day of racing at the Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier at the
Broome-Tioga Sports Center but Mitchell Dougherty, a local pro
who has been riding the Broome-Tioga racecourse since he was a
youngster, made McDade work for his wins.
Mitch Dougherty (597) leads the pack out of the first turn in
the final 450 A/Pro Sport moto at the Loretta Lynn Area
Qualifier at Broome-Tioga on April 5th in Binghamton,
New York.
McDade topped both the 250 and 450 A/Pro Sport divisions
with perfect 1-1 results. McDade had to contend with
Dougherty’s great starts in the 450 A/Pro Sport division.
Dougherty led the start of both moto’s and led the opening
moto until lap four when McDade made the pass to claim the lead
and take the win. Dougherty holeshot the final 450 A/Pro Sport
moto and led the moto for four laps, eventually giving up the
point position to McDade just before starting lap five. McDade
took another win with Dougherty finishing eight seconds back.
Dougherty’s 3-2 rides earned him the runner-up tier of the 450
A/Pro Sport podium. Garrett Toth (2-4) completed the podium.
Josh Emmi (245), Jay Weller (597) and Michael Hacia (31)
battle for third early in the final 450 A/Pro Sport moto at the
Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier on April 5th
at Broome-Tioga.
Dougherty and McDade led the start of the opening 450
A/Pro Sport moto but when the leaders exited the front rhythm
section, McDade was all the way back in sixth. Dougherty, Jay
Weller, Josh Emmi, Michael Hacia and Dave Costa were first
through fifth. Dougherty had a three second lead by the start of
lap two and was trailed by Weller, McDade, Emmi and Hacia.
McDade closed the gap on Weller on the downhill triple at the
end of lap two. Hacia and Garrett Toth passed Emmi taking fourth
and fifth. McDade passed Weller for third in the front section
and quickly began to close the gap on Dougherty. Dougherty’s
advantage was reduced to a measly three bike lengths at the
start of lap four and by the start of lap five was less than a
second. McDade made the pass for the lead in the first turn.
Dougherty was relegated to second. Weller, Toth and Hacia
rounded out the top five. Toth closed the gap on Weller and made
the pass for third at the start of lap six. Toth continued his
charge and caught Dougherty on the last lap and the two drag
raced to the finish. McDade got the win with a seven second
lead. Toth, Dougherty, Weller and Hacia completed the top five.
Dougherty, McDade, Weller and Emmi led the start of the
final 450 A/Pro Sport moto. Dougherty exited the front rhythm
section with a four second lead. Emmi, Hacia, Weller and Reed
Chapman followed. Dougherty increased his lead to six seconds at
the start of lap two. McDade passed Chapman taking fifth. McDade
moved from fifth to second in about a quarter of a lap. Weller,
Emmi and Toth were now third through fifth. McDade chipped away
at Dougherty’s lead, reducing it by about two seconds a lap
and made the pass for the lead in the final corner of lap four.
McDade quickly gapped Dougherty by three seconds that increased
to eight seconds at the checkered flag. Dougherty, Weller, Toth
and Hacia closed out the top five.
